H'VELD-G'DAM - Alle ChristenUnie-raadsleden en -wethouders uit de regio Alblasserwaard-Vijfheerenlanden (AV) hebben op woensdag 31 oktober de overeenkomst tot samenwerking besproken die afgelopen maanden door alle gemeenteraden is aangenomen.

In het Hardinxveldse gemeentehuis verzorgde burgemeester drs. R.H. Augusteijn, zelf enthousiast medevormgever van deze overeenkomst, de aftrap van dit overleg. Zijn boodschap aan de ChristenUnie-bestuurders was helder: ,,Bestuurskracht is van de burger, zij bepalen of een gemeente bestuurskrachtig is of niet." Ook bepleitte hij de bestuurders niet bang te zijn voor de provincie. Van herindeling kan pas sprake zijn als deze door de gemeente zelf gewenst is. Een dwingende hand van de provincie is in strijd met het kabinetsbeleid.
Na de pauze is zonder de gastspreker doorgesproken over samenwerking op strategisch niveau, maar ook over de vormen van operationele samenwerking tussen Gorinchem en Hardinxveld-Giessendam, tussen Nieuw-Lekkerland, Liesveld en Graafstroom en tussen Leerdam, Zederik en Giessenlanden.
In januari 2008 hopen de bestuurders weer bij elkaar te komen. Dan zal naast het onderwerp 'Samenwerking AV-regio' ook de al veelbesproken 'Natte as' op de agenda staan.
